The Ancient Numismatic Society of Washington, DC (ANSW) is an informal group of individuals interested primarily in ancient Greek and Roman coins with some interest through the end of the Byzantine period and medieval European coinage. Most members live in the greater Washington, DC area.

Coins of Constantine Symposium

York, England - July 20, 2006

Constantine the Great was proclaimed emperor in York on July 25, 306 A.D. To commemorate his ascension, a half-day conference on Constantinian coinage is being held on July 20, 2006, featuring an international panel of distinguished speakers. Event Details

Concurrent Events

Constantine and the Late Roman World
July 17 - 20. A 3 day history symposium sponsored by the University of York, featuring many prominent Roman historians.

Constantine the Great
March 29 - October 31. A major international art exhibit at the Yorkshire Museum.

York Stamp and Coin Show
July 21 - 22. Large UK coin show including a number of ancient dealers.

York Roman Festival
July 21 - 30. A popular Roman re-enactment festival.

Our next meeting will be held in Reston, VA on Sunday, July 16.  The program will be Coins of the Pentathlon.

Our last meeting was held in Washington, DC on June 25.  The program was Overview of the Coinage of Athens - Part III:  Archaic Owls 525 - 480 BCE.  There were 13 members in attendance.
